Cancer Care Coordination With Nurse Navigators, Sg2, 2006.

When deciding on your navigator team makeup, do not simply let volume be your guide.  An analysis of tumor type distribution for one institution reveals that this type of analysis may mask the need for nurse navigator services for patients with complex tumor types (e.g., brain cancer).  Also for consideration are those with the most barriers (e.g. financial, psychosocial, etc) to care - and successful care.

How is your Center deciding on your navigator team makeup?  Are you offering up-front distress screening to decide on a need for navigation for all patients?  Is it a mix of volume and complex cancers only?  Are you offering specialty navigation, by tumor site AND by distress type...such as a financial navigator? Let us know in the comment section below.
