Software Engineer Back End

We are looking for a Python / Ruby developer responsible for building enterprise applications, including anything from complex groups of back-end microservices to command line utilities and data processing scripts.  Your primary responsibility will be to design and develop these applications, and to coordinate with the rest of the team working on different layers of the infrastructure.  Thus, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and building quality products is essential.  You will be expected to also participate in front-end development utilizing JavaScript frameworks such as ReactJS and EmberJS.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience working with cloud-based hosting providers such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS
  • Good understanding of the syntax of Ruby, Python and its nuances
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming
  • Understanding of functional programming style in Ruby
  • Skills for writing reusable Ruby libraries that may be used in expressive ways
  • Familiarity with concepts of MVC, Mocking, ORM, and RESTful
  • Experience with popular web application frameworks
  • Knack for writing clean, readable / reusable code
  • Experience with SQL databases such a Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle or MySql
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
  • Able to create database schemas that represent and support business processes
  • Implementation of automated testing platforms and unit tests
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools {{e.g. Git }}
  • Familiarity with development aiding tools {{such Bundler, Rake, etc}}
  • Familiarity with continuous integration
  • Experience in dealing with performance problems and tuning the application and/or database accordingly

Working Conditions:

  • Remote work an option but prefer candidates that will work onsite with engineering team in Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like
  • Limited to no travel required
